Sofia Athanasoulia is a multidisciplinary artist whose both research and material practice explore transformation, dehumanization, and material agency within posthuman ecologies. Her ongoing research investigates how organic materials embody cycles of decay and regeneration, proposing new imaginaries of life beyond the human. Working with biodegradable bioplastics, light, video, and sound, she creates sensorial environments where matter itself performs - shifting, eroding, and re-forming - to reveal the porous boundaries between body, technology, and environment.
Trained in scenography and theatre, Athanasoulia’s practice bridges artistic research, production, and collective making. She is focusing on creating works that merge ecological awareness with aesthetic experimentation. Through a language of fragility and flux, her work addresses the effects of disconnection and estrangement, reimagining them as processes of renewal where fluidity and re-emergence become acts of resilience and rehumanization.
