Performative audio experience (artistic research)

Walls

Walls is a live audio-performative experience  based on Konstantinos Kavafis poem "Walls" ( "Τα τείχη").

Walls

Without consideration, without pity, without shame
they have built great and high walls around me.

And now I sit here and despair.
I think of nothing else: this fate gnaws at my mind;

for I had many things to do outside.
Ah why did I not pay attention when they were building the walls.

But I never heard any noise or sound of builders.
Imperceptibly they shut me from the outside world.

Sofia approached this poem by creating the atmosphere of the feeling of being imprisoned, as if we have built walls between ourselves and others. She wanted to connect deeper with the spectator even though they had just 10 meters distance, by keeping them apart using separate headphones. In addition, the spectator was able to listen all her steps and the sounds surrounding her, from the beginning until the end of the experience. This process made the spectator to start getting confused while was wondering if everything was happening in the real time.
